My last Sunday at the church I served near Chicago was a difficult goodbye and also a beautiful celebration. While I miss those people very much, I know that starting something new has been exciting. Here's a sermon about the river of life -- available wherever you might live: Mexico, Michigan, India or Iowa. Grace and peace my friends.
Last year I preached on the day after Christmas at a church I was serving near Chicago. After listening to the sermon again this year, I found it to resonate with all that is going on. There seems to be a cloud of grief that is lingering after the November elections. There is still too much gun violence, too much greed, too much militarism, too much power, running the show. There is not enough love or justice or reconciliation.
We need a little light of hope, peace, love, and joy to be incarnate in our world. We need the Jesus that is good news to people without homes, good news for those marginalized by society, good news for our shepherd hearts. Please listen and know that even in the darkest of times the hope of love will overcome.
